We have an exciting opportunity for a Chef Manager at YMCA Wimbledon. We are seeking a distinctive individual who has a passion for preparing good wholesome and fresh food and is a strong manager to lead a catering team of Chefs, Kitchen Porters and Front of House, ensuring the catering department is a destination hub for the public and great customer service is delivered at all times.
The Catering Department at YMCA Wimbledon falls under the YMCA brand of Health and Wellbeing and is quite unique delivering a number of catering services which include cooking for 110 residents, delivering a café style service to the public and catering for 2 free schools.
In November 2015 YMCA Wimbledon was the first business in Merton to be awarded the new and updated Healthier Catering Commitment for London. It is also the first business in Merton to fulfil all of the 24 essential and desired (optional) criteria. The department continues to develop its healthy cooking strategy and strives to support people to understand the benefits of healthy eating.
We expect our Chef Manager to work to a high standard to guarantee a consistent and excellent standard of catering service within YMCA Wimbledon. Can you see yourself being responsible for a team ensuring the smooth running of all catering services, kitchen and front of house procedures are up to date and being followed to include the ‘Safer Food Better Business for Caterers’ standards, as well as leading on the recruitment, induction and development of all catering staff?
Our Chef Manager should have knowledge of special diets and food allergies as well planning healthy menus; an understanding of food hygiene and health and safety issues; hold a level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate; experience of working in the catering industry and managing staff. It is essential for candidates to be able to cook to a high standard and provide direction and on the job training to other staff.
