Based at: YMCA Surbiton
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, worked over five days, usually Monday-Friday, (term time only, 39 weeks) and occasional weekends (when working in children’s parties and community events)
Salary: £17,702.16 per annum

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team in the delivery of high-quality child care for up to 24 school-age children, working 20 hours per week hands on within the Afterschool Club. The Afterschool Childcare Service provides collection from school and care for the children until parents/carers collect them. Children’s classes and courses run term time only and parties operate throughout the year. You will be responsible for: planning and delivering activities and play opportunities that inspire, challenge, engage and fulfil children attending the setting and classes which are open to the public; ensure that an appropriate healthy food menu is implemented and maintained; ensure parents/carers have feedback on any observations or concerns surrounding their child and regularly liaise with the Head of Children’s Work regarding OFSTED registration and quality standards issues.
We are looking for someone with a playwork background who is able to lead on this provision, be creative in their approach to a variety of play opportunities, and provide a range of activities to meet the needs of children of different ages and skill levels. It is essential to have: an NVQ Level 3 (Playwork/Childcare) qualification or equivalent (or be working towards this); an understanding of the Playwork Principles and Statutory EYFS requirements; knowledge of child protection processes; excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This role is subject to safeguarding checks including a DBS check in line with YMCA LSW procedures.
